August 31 - The layover

Woke up this morning and Ray took the car to get checked out. The doggies and Kelly got to hang out in the hotel room and loved it. Car checked out good. Nothing serious. All our travels and all the dust overwhelmed systems. David and Lynnelle picked us up at the hotel room and we had lunch outside in downtown Grand Junction and walked around outside and through downtown and we really enjoyed it.
We got to see David’s business called Duffy’s. So glad he is doing well and enjoying what he does. Then we toured the area and the new home they are building which is absolutely grand and lovely. They took us back to their current home where Sophie and Baxter got to run and play in the grass while we visited. Lynnelle showed me her sewing room where she does her embroidery and all the things for Kreations for Kids. My sis n law Karen would have drooled over her machines and her sewing room
:) Then we went out to dinner for some awesome BBQ (which Ray has been craving) at Famous Dave’s BBQ. We highly recommend and so do David and Lynnelle. They dropped us off at the hotel afterward and we wanted to say thanks for the hospitality. We really loved the town surrounded by mountains of Colorado. We are debating going to Yellowstone. It is going to be a long long drive tomorrow. So tomorrow will be a surprise for us all :)

Aug 30 - Leaving Las Vegas

Glad to leave the Imperial Palace in our rear-view mirror but wished we had more time to see some shows. Loved Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.
Tried to find the Famous Cowboy and Vegas sign but realized too late we were on the South side and it was on the North side......oh well.
Saw some interesting things on our way out of Vegas. When we got into Utah, not far before we came to Zion Canyon which was awesome!
Loved it. Stopped to eat dinner at Butch Cassidy's hideout. Guess it was where his original boyhood home was. Food was good and folks were nice there.
Beautiful vistas but long drive to Grand Junction and didn't arrive till 11 pm but we got here and found a great hotel. Staying an additional night. Ray is taking the car to be looked at today and then we shall meet up with David and Lynelle and hope to see their brand new home they are building as well as David's business.
Today we see Grand Junction Colorado! (Car update, turns out we Overwhelmed the Stability Control System driving through Yosemite's mountains. :)  All is well now...)

Do we have to dad???

Aug 29-Las Vegas bound.

We left Mammoth Lakes for Las Vegas. Last night Ray thought he heard big brown bears trying to break into the bear free trash bins. Kelly heard nothing. Sophie boofed which is a non bark meaning she was too scared to full out bark. We stopped at a coffee shop and Kelly met two guys there who were from Pennsylvania. One was from Reading and one was from Willow Grove. They had relocated to Mammoth Lakes, California. The one guy gave us great scenery directions to Los Vegas (but hardly any gas stations on the way but we did okay). We stopped at a ghost town that was abandoned in the early 1900’s. We think it was called Palmeto. We met two fellows there and we have had a great time talking and meeting people along this trip. We got a hotel on the strip in Las Vegas (the Imperial Palace). It is truly a disappointment as I sit here typing watching our 13 inch TV screen. I cannot say enough how disappointing it is and how we would NEVER recommend it or stay here again nor eat anywhere within this casino area…but none the less we took off from here to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead and came back through the strip at night and saw the beautiful Las Vegas lights. The CORGI’s (as everyone calls them) are celebrities everywhere we go and Sophie flirts with everyone. The folks in the casino at the hotel cannot stop petting them :) We are going to find the Suzuki dealer tomorrow morning and see what they say about our warning lights. We may stay here longer but in a different HOTEL or we may head for Grand Junction, Colorado (with one stop along the way) and see some friends there. We will have to see how tomorrow goes. Night all…Colorado here we come hopefully soon. :/
