We stayed at a nostalgic motel on Route 66 last night (nostalgia is
nice but can also = very old)…..and again we found a nostalgic motel on Route 66
for this evening. We love the nostalgia
of Route 66 but think we might look for some more modern facilities to stay in ") We woke up in Holbrook,
AZ and with our motel got a free breakfast at the Mom and Pop diner next
door. Ray says it was the very best country gravy ever. We left there and
headed for the Grand Canyon but made a stop on a corner in Winslow AZ and took
some pictures. “Were some mighty fine
sights to see :)” (Lines from the Eagles song).
We got to the South Rim area of the Grand Canyon. I cannot come up with words to describe the
majesty of the views. I am borrowing the
words from a person –a visitor from one of the hotels from the 1800’s who had to
ride a stagecoach to get there……”No language can fully describe, no artist paint
the beauty, grandeur, immensity and sublimity of this most wonderful production
of Nature’s great architect. [Grand
Canyon] must be seen to be appreciated.”
C.O. Hall, Grand Canyon Visitor, 1895.
Wow to the max is all we can say and hope you enjoy just a few of
the photos we took.
We then drove to Bedrock City, the home of the Flintstones
Campground and well…..you just have to see the photos. Think Ray was as excited to be in Bedrock
City as to see the Grand Canyon! Ray had to have a picture similar to the one
that was taken when he was maybe 6 years old when he went there. It was fun and silly. Then we headed to this nostalgic motel on Rt
66 and cannot wait to take some photos tomorrow. For now, we are bushed and the dogs are fast
asleep already!
