Sep 7th

We left Burlington Colorado and crossed into Kansas pretty quickly.
We followed a storm all the way to Illinois but never got into it. Glad because these states need rain.
The corn crops look sad. We took a minor diversion to Cawker City, Kansas to see the World's Largest Ball of Twine.
The town was a happening place (sarcasm). There was a lovely lake we at lunch at nearby.
I guess the world's largest ball of twine did not help revitalize the town or what we've learned a lot on this trip is just because a town or place LOOKS abandoned, does not mean that it is :/ I guess we can say the Largest ball of Twine is a good finale to our RT 66 tour (although not officially along Rt 66).
We really pushed hard today to make it then to Troy IL. We are in the hotel and plan to leave early to try to make it home tomorrow if all goes well. We have been listening to a great book on CD about the old west, Indians, pioneers, etc.
Goal for tomorrow.....HOME.
We have many mixed feelings although we definitely miss our own bed and Baxter is more than ready to not ever see the car again.
