Today we left Sheridan WY and headed for Devil's Tower. It is a volcanic
formation created and you have to see pictures to appreciate it. We only saw it from
a distance.
We then headed for Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. That was
really something to see up close and personal and of course the drive along the way and the scenic views were wonderful.
We found that we had time also to see the Crazy Horse monument. That was very interesting as they are
still blasting and only have Crazy Horse's face done at this time and are planning to create him and his horse. This has been going on since
1948. We are wondering if it will be done in our lifetime.
The visitor center though is something to see with gift shops, museums and
many things there even though the monument isn't finished.
The thought crosses my mind frequently on this trip as to what right we had
to come over from other countries and take over this land and drive the Natives into reservations. In the name of religion and
religious rights? In the name of ownership of land? Who said so?
We also saw a wildfire in the distance as were were driving. I believe it
was in the mountains of Montana but not really sure.
Our car started making a whirring noise in the rear and we think it's the
wheel bearing in the left rear. This is going to require a stop to have it
checked. We were hoping to have a little bit of an early arrival home but may
not make it now. We hope we can make it home without repairs.
There are only a few Chevy dealerships between here and Colorado and even
fewer Suzuki dealers (who can honor our warranty). Our frustration level is
rising and we pray it again is nothing serious.
Tomorrow, to Brighton Colorado (hopefully) and see Ray's cousin Lori.:)
