We left Jackson Hole (lovely town) for the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone
Park. The scenery and wildlife were fabulous. We didn't see all of Yellowstone
or Yosemite but we can say at this point that Yellowstone is our favorite and
both are worth spending more time than we could afford to give.
Almost right away we saw pronghorn antelope, deer and a bull moose. Then
we drove through the park and saw bison and a bison herd by Lake Yellowstone.
We did not see the bear that Kelly so wanted to see and not even Smokey the
Bear. What the heck did he retire or something?
We went to Old Faithful and it was faithful :)We didn't wait more than 30 minutes before it
went off and it was quite a display. Ray will be posting video of Old Faithful
hopefully soon. When we left Yellowstone we drove from the East end toward
Cody. OMG, what a wonderful view. We also saw Buffalo Bill State Park and
Reservoir. If you have never seen that, it is a must. Ray fell in love with
that stretch of wild countryside. We drove on to Sheridan apparently taking the
scenic route that TomTom chose which gave us some switchback mountains and Big
Horn national forest (we hadn't bargained for) but oh my goodness, the views
again. The deer were everywhere and up close and we think we saw a doe Elk
because she was 3 times as big as the deer. We are now at the Trails End motel
which is actually pretty nice and boasts of a hot breakfast tomorrow.
Tomorrow we head for Devil's Tower and Mount Rushmore. Not sure what all
we are fitting into tomorrow but that's the goal.
