August 20th

Today Aug 20, we left Springfield MO (loved the hotel we stayed at) and headed down the highway until we saw historic Rt 66 signs and headed off the beaten path.  We came across a really neat old time Sinclair gas station and a fellow there gave us Rt 66 tips. Super nice fellow.  We took off for Red Oak.  This is what once was an old town and a millionaire bought the town and simply moved it.  It was pretty cool.  We thought it was a museum until several dogs came out to meet us while we were walking around with our pups and luckily they were friendly.  Found out quickly that this replanted town was inhabited.  Met a super nice lady who happened to have a fellow corgi named Fancy.  If you want to live in a really small town in Missouri, she has her house to sell for 35,000.   Look at the photos.   Drove on some rugged 66 and some highway and got to the Nation’s largest McDonald’s and mini Will Rodgers museum in Oklahoma.  The wind really does come whipping off the plains.   We then saw an abandoned highway.  Not sure if it was old 66 or not.   Then we travel to an old roadside attraction called the blue whale (see pix).  Old ark to be restored if they ever get enough funds.  Travel through an old town with a brick Broadway street.  Saw a fire in distance off highway.  Burn bans everywhere and saw a burned out area along the road.  Drove to the KOA campground where we are renting a cabin for the night.  AHHHHHHHHHHHH.  Road weary right now.

Red Oak is an old Town that was moved by a wealthy man to new location to be preserved. People still live there.
